Ok. Today we are just going to do the basics. Prepare the cover and back and prepare a few pages. This part is not very exciting, but these are the bones of the project...You will need the following materials...
Supplies:
1. A paper collection of your choice
2. A quick drying glue of your choice
3. A ruler or an accurate paper trimmer
4. Book board front and back
5. A brayer is a life saver to smooth out bubbles and wrinkles!
6. A bone folder
7. A decorative edge punch is only an option...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1
Pick your paper for the cover and back. Cut the selected paper 1/2 inch wider than the cover on all sides. For example, 5x7 cover= 6x8 paper cut. This will give you a 1/2 inch margin all around. Place your cut papers pattern side down on a flat surface and cover the edges of the book board well with glue. Use sparingly all over the middle. Place board over the paper glue side down and use your brayer to smooth out. If you don't have a brayer you can use the edge of your ruler to smooth it, but be gentle enough that you don't rip your paper with the ruler. You just want to get any wrinkles or air bubbles out.

Step 2
Cut out squared corners on each corner of front and back covers. Fold the flaps over the edges and score using a bone folder or your fingernails if you dont have a bone folder. Fold back the flaps, apply glue and fold back over the covers. You can fold the top and bottom first, then the sides, or the other way around. Brayer it all flat.

Step 3
Pick a coordinating paper for the inside flaps of you cover and back. Cut 2 pieces 1/4 inch piece smaller than the size of your cover. This is going to leave a 1/8 inch margin all around once glued to the inside flaps. So apply glue to the wrong side of your paper and carefully place it down on the inside flaps of your cover and back. Make sure you get the edges well, and use your brayer to work out the bubbles and wrinkles.

Step 4
Figure out where your holes are going to be and how many you want and punch them out. I used my Binderie...Don't look to close at the photo, I accidentally pushed the button while I was positioning my paper and drilled a hole prematurely...Watch your hand placement when positioning with the Binderie...lol...
Your front and back covers are finished!!! Look how pretty they are!! Well almost. We will decorate in another session. Hint...Tim Holtz has the most amazing book plates and photo corners from the ideology collection!! Go check out the store!!!

Step 5 and 6
These illustrations are just showing the fronts and backs of 4 pages that I prepared. If you are using card stock or grunge board for your pages, that will be sturdy enough, I used regular weight paper and I glued them to a piece of plain card stock just to get the thickness. Love my brayer!!! I get nice flat pages.
That's it for this Monday Madness. Next week the fun begins..I will be posting what you will need for the next session.

Tip...Save all your strips and scraps. We will probably use them for future sessions.
Now if I can figure out how to place the picture over the instructions, I will change this post...I tried inserting the image but it didn't work...
Help???

I forgot...If you want a decorative edge strip to your book, punch a 1 inch strip and glue it to your book edges before you make your holes. That gives it a binding look. I chose not to do it in my illustrations. Like the white part of this book, but with a decorative edge.

Awesome! This will be so fun!
I just wanted to throw this idea out there: if you don't have a brayer, that Rub-on Roller from Basic Grey works well for smoothing out bubbles, using the flat black part, not the ball point.

Oh Lisa GREAT job!!!! Thank you!!!

I do have that BG rub roller, and I've used it for bubbles. Works great!!!

Also, if anyone has the xyron?? It is great for mini's. I used it to do the mini autograph books, for our Disney trip. It's AWESOME. Slide in your pp and peel the back and your ready to roll!!! I have the 18' one.

I will be gathering my stuff, and getting my butt in gear!!!

how many sheets of pp do you think we will need for this? I have some coordinating pp's, not necessarily a pp pack. Just wondering!

Depends on how big your mini is. If you did a 6 x 6, then you could cut the 12 x 12 paper in to 4, 2 pieces for the front cover and back, and 2 pieces for the inside covers. 1 piece for the covers. If the paper is thick, you could use the papers alone for the pages, that would be 4 2 sided pages from 1 sheet of paper. I chose to reinforce my thinner paper by gluing them to a plain card stock on both sides. You don't need a paper pack, it just looks nice with the coordinating papers. If you have papers that match nicely, then 4 or 5 12 x 12 pieces is all you will probably need.
