Well here is a basic tutorial on adding a texture layer to your photo's using Photoshop. Elements may be slightly different, and because all of my favorite actions and brushes are saved in my Photoshop CS2, that is what I will be using instead of my upgraded versions. so here are the steps. Try not to post until these steps are done. I wish I knew how to batch them in one post, but I don't..So bear with me. Hope this makes sense. I will also detail what texture I used. And tricks that I didn't show on the tutorial itself. You just have to play with it.July 31, 2010 at 7:35 pm #39372
Open up Photoshop and load a picture and a texture into your program. Here I have a picture of Gabbie and the texture I used is White Linen from my Florabella Textures I pack.July 31, 2010 at 7:41 pm #39373
Step 2 and 3.
Using your move tool (see it highlighted in purple in your tool palette) Holding down the Left button on your mouse, drag the texture over your photo. Then hit Edit, and in your dropdown menu go to Transform then drop down to Scale and hit enter. That will create that box with little boxes around your photo.

At this point you can get rid of your texture. You dont need it. Just X it out. (I left it).
Holding down the left click button on your mouse, drag the little box in the coer of your texture layer and bring it over the photo to match coer to coer. Making sure your photo is covered with the texture with no gaps at the sides. Hit the Enter button on your keyboard. That will lock the layer in place.July 31, 2010 at 7:56 pm #39375
Step 6 and 7.
Using the eraser tool(highlighted in pink) Select a soft edge brush (highlighted in blue) and set the opacity to 30% and the flow to 50%. Start erasing over the area you want to remove texture from. In this case I removed it from Gabbies face and body, but left some texture over the edges of her body. You will have to go over it a few times until you have the desired look you want. You could also play with the opacity in your Layers palette to fade the texture a little. I left it at 100% in this photo.

Once you are satisfied with the look of your textured photo. You can Flatten your image. That will lock your layers together. Now save your photo the way you normally do. Please feel free to ask any questions.

"Some cars look like they're going fast when they're standing still. The Camaro looks like it's going to beat you unconscious, put you in a silly hat, invite a couple of other Camaros over to take photos of you, then e-mail them to all your friends and co-workers. Call me crazy, but I like that in a car."July 31, 2010 at 9:32 pm #39380
I CAN DO IT!!!!!!! YEA!!!! I'M READY TO PURCHASE SOME NEAT TEXTURES AND ACTIONS FROM FLORABELLA!!!! I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!July 31, 2010 at 9:34 pm #39381July 31, 2010 at 9:35 pm #39382July 31, 2010 at 10:19 pm #39383
Thanks so much Lisa! I am trying this now as we speak (or type)! For you PSE girls, PSE doesn't have a flow setting on the bar. However if you hold down your shift key and choose a number 1 through 0 that sets the flow. 1 = 10% 0=100%
If you have the airbrush on you don't need the shift key. You can also do 2 then 5 for 25% etc.July 31, 2010 at 11:07 pm #39385
I am going to purchase some Florabellas too. The looks amazing. Much better then the textures I downloaded and used thus far.July 31, 2010 at 11:10 pm #39384
Yay! I did it!
The problem I was having before was I was using MCP texture applicator. The textures open with a mask. So the eraser tool doesn't work the same as it does here. It was causing me kinds of problems! Off to try again! Oh an I need florabella. I need money too.August 1, 2010 at 12:17 am #39379
