The first thing you need to do before trying to add a photo to a thread on Swirlydoos, is to re-size your photos on your computer. They can be no bigger than 600×600 pixels.

      Resizing with Photoshop Elements
      :

Click on “image” at the top of your screen,

      [img:width=600&height=209]/wp-content/uploads/2014/1359917877_550_FT0_screenhunter_12_feb._03_11.51.jpg[/img]

and then click on “resize image size” and you will get a screen that looks like this. Under “Pixel Dimensions” you can see that the width for this photo, is 1024 pixels and the height is 768 pixels. The resolution (under “Document Size”) is 96.

      [img:width=600&height=490]/wp-content/uploads/2014/1359917974_550_FT0_screenhunter_10_feb._03_11.22.jpg[/img]

If you want a sharper picture, change the resolution to 300. Do this first because it will increase the pixels up above automatically. Then, you will change the largest pixel dimension to 600 (in this case the width). When you do this, it changes the height automatically.

      [img:width=600&height=515]/wp-content/uploads/2014/1359918060_550_FT0_screenhunter_11_feb._03_11.24.jpg[/img]

Click “OK”, close your image and save your changes. This screen will pop up. I always set it to a “quality” of 12 and “maximum”.

      [img:width=423&height=385]/wp-content/uploads/2014/1359918167_550_FT0_screenhunter_09_feb._03_11.11.jpg[/img]

Now you will have a properly sized photo filed on your computer.

So next you go to the thread where you want to insert a photo. Go all the way to the bottom and you will see a box like this:

      [img:width=600&height=112]/wp-content/uploads/2014/1359918598_550_FT0_screenhunter_14_feb._03_12.05.jpg[/img]

Click on post reply (Up in the right hand coer) and you will be taken here:

      [img:width=600&height=333]/wp-content/uploads/2014/1359918742_550_FT0_screenhunter_16_feb._03_12.11.jpg[/img]

Once here, you can type your message in the reply box, and when you want to insert a photo into it, you go down to where it says File to attach, click on browse and find your RESIZED photo where you have filed it on your computer. Then click on preview and you will see a screen with your message and the photo.

      [img:width=600&height=313]/wp-content/uploads/2014/1359919152_550_FT0_screenhunter_17_feb._03_12.18.jpg[/img]

If you DON'T see your picture, then it is usually because it is the wrong size. Double check that it IS 600 pixels. On the odd occasion I have had to put it down to 500 pixels in order to get it to work. This shouldn't happen … I blame it on gremlins!!

You can keep adding more pictures and text for your post; previewing it until you're happy with the way it looks. Then go back down to where it says Reply to thread, click on that, and you're done – your post will be there. IMPORTANT: If you forget that you're in Preview mode and don't remember to Reply to thread… you will lose your post. Leaed this one by experience. 🙁

      * If you don't have Photoshop Elements, here is a free software program called Photoscape that I recently found, that makes re-sizing very easy, as well as many other things, such as adding frames: http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/download.php
Once you've installed it, you just click on the Editor button, look on the lefthand side to find where your photo is on your computer:

      [img:width=419&height=600]/wp-content/uploads/2014/1359920493_550_FT0_screenhunter_18_feb._03_12.39.jpg[/img]

Click on it, go down to the re-size arrow and select Reduce the longer length: 600 px:

      [img:width=600&height=245]/wp-content/uploads/2014/1359920824_550_FT0_screenhunter_19_feb._03_12.45.jpg[/img]

Then save it to a file folder on your computer (there's a Save button over on the bottom right-hand coer) and you will get one final box that looks like this:

      [img:width=572&height=600]/wp-content/uploads/2014/1359921069_550_FT0_screenhunter_20_feb._03_12.48.jpg[/img]

Just click on OK and your picture will be filed and ready to use.

Hope this tutorial is helpful. It's just the way I've leaed that works for me. Others might go about it a different way!

Wow you did a great job on that! I pretty much always size my pics to 500 because they won't load at 600.

"Some cars look like they're going fast when they're standing still. The Camaro looks like it's going to beat you unconscious, put you in a silly hat, invite a couple of other Camaros over to take photos of you, then e-mail them to all your friends and co-workers. Call me crazy, but I like that in a car."

Hi Linda. I am trying to resize my image for the round robin card challenge so I can load it. I have photoshop elements 9 but I don't know how to use it very well – yet. I don't get the pixel option under resize, only inches. I can't figure out how to activate the pixels settings. Help please if you can. Regards, Theresa
