Wow, it’s already March 1st, which means its time for a new challenge. I can’t believe it. This month’s challenge is one that is close to my heart. I Love to Bake and Cook. Baking comes in first but I do love to cook when I have the time and an appreciative audience, lol. With that being said, we have been remodeling our Kitchen for the last 2.5 years and I have not had a stove. It’s true that you don’t miss something until it’s gone. I have missed cooking meals for hubby and myself and Sunday dinners with the boys and grandchildren. But what I have missed more than that is baking my mother’s fig cake. This is a family favorite and I use the bake this cake on Sunday afternoons while my parents took their nap. Since then I have served this to my family and introduced it to my husband, who absolutely loves it. I think it would be fun to scrap a special family recipe. The rules are simple:
You must use the recipe on the layout (a photo or something hand written)
Post your layout here and in the Swirlydoos Facebook gallery.
Be sure to comment on everyone’s efforts.
You can use any supplies you wish, you do not have to use Swirlydoos kits but we sure of love to see the savages use our kits! So go on an embelly hunt in your stash.
Extra points (1 each) will be given if:
You use a photo of the completed recipe and/or the person who the recipe belongs to.
Use some of your swirly stash and tell us what you used.
If you use a technique from years past, such as embossing, or using stickles and such and tell us what you did.
I will have my husband randomly draw a name out of all of the entries and the winner will receive a RAK from me!!! Sooooo lets start baking memories!!!!
THis is my first time to host a challenge, so let me know if I missed something.

Angelica, figs are a summer staple around here. The figs here are different than what you can buy in the store. we have small sweet figs that when cooked down with a ton of sugar make the best preserves. It’s a tradition around my house that starting July 4th, when the figs are ripe to go out in the cool morning and pick a pot of figs. I remember picking figs and canning them with my grandmother. Ooh so good. This cake is like a gingerbread or syrup cake with the figs tossed in. If I had my stove I would have cooked a cake and added a picture but…

Okay, I’ve found my picture (thought it was on my hard drive, but I guess I never saved the scan years ago) and I’ll pull out the recipe tonight.
I’m back at work, so this may take a couple of days, but (fingers crossed) I should be able to post my entry early next week at the latest!!!
